Our first day on ASB

My name is Israel Polo and I am a senior studying philosophy at the University of Memphis. I am a co-oordinator for this spring break trip. Today I am blogging about my first day on alternative spring break trip to Pensacola, Florida.

This Sunday morning was our first day on our trip. I started the morning getting breakfast at Perkins at 6am with Cedric, another co-coordinator, and Sara and Emily, two other participants. Afterward, we headed to the van to meet with Angie, our coordinator, and  the the to get the van packed with everyone's luggage. We were traveling on the road by 8am.

Since we met at an early time, most of us were still sleepy and we slept the majority of the trip. I stayed up and chatted with with Jessica, who sat next to me for the seven hour trip. We only stopped one time during the trip and got to talk with other people I had not had a chance to meet.

Once arriving in Florida, we went to  the church that was housing us for the week. After getting settled in, we took the opportunity to go to the beach while the weather permitted. It was forecasted  to rain the entire week starting the day we arrived. When we got to the beach, I had a chance to swim in the ocean, something I have not done in a while. It was a great experience but I had hoped everyone to jump in. I do not blame them because the water was cold and I was even more cold when I got out.
We decided to head to our place and have our daily meeting. We discussed our highs and lows for the day and how our day impacted us. I said that the day was great and that my greatest impact occurred during an epiphany I had while reading on the van. In brief, I gained a sense of my goals and how I have an opportunity to be great in my career choice. I learned that all I have to do is continue no matter what.

To close, I have had a great first day. There were no problems on the way getting here, and I hope everyone will enjoy the rest of our trip as much as I had on my first day.
